Before I begin this RANT (yes this is one of my famous rants) I want to echo something I’ve said before many times. That is, “When we go looking for TRUTH we usually find it in the middle between two or more extremes.” Is this also the case when it comes to Evolution and Creation?
Creationists believe man (Homo sapiens) was created 6 kya to 10 kya. They believe Noah’s Flood (aka the Deluge) began 4359 years ago (2348 BC). Some creationists vary on this date slightly. They hold the view that the flood waters lasted for 1 year and 10 days. As the flood waters began to drain back into the ocean basins it took 7 months before the mountain tops could be seen. Creationists believe Noah and his family and their wives survived the flood and repopulated the planet and the result is that humans today all stem from Noah’s sons. So what this means if that the Adamic race that came from Adam and Eve were all destroyed save for Noah and his family. They also believe the flood was global not simply local.
Creationists believe that the last ice age (glacial period) was triggered by Noah’s Flood. They assert that the Biblical tale about the flood provides a simple explanation for the ice age that followed. Prior to the last ice age Oard and Vardiman found evidence that the ocean waters were warmer. This evidence comes via oxygen isotopes in the shells of tiny marine animals called “Foraminifera.” Creationists believe that at the end of the flood there were a number of huge volcanic explosions that sent ash and gases miles high in the atmosphere and thus blocked sunlight from reaching the planet. This caused global temperatures to plummet even in summer. Dust and gases slowly settled out of the atmosphere but continued volcanic activity replenished these gases and dust for centuries to come following the flood. Ironically, amid the Pleistocene sediments we do find large amounts of volcanic rock which creationists say were formed following the flood.
Using standard knowledge of atmospheric circulation Vardiman showed warm oceans after the flood and large rates of cooling at the poles which would have driven extreme atmospheric convection. What this would have created would have been a giant polar hurricane-like storm system that would have covered large portions of the Arctic and Antarctica. This type of system would have continued for the next 500 years according to Vardiman up to the glacial maximum point. Such circulation patterns would have delivered mass amounts of snow to higher latitudes which would have quickly accumulated and become ice sheets which first spread over continents and then later over oceans as the waters cooled down near the end of the glacial period. According to creationists, then, the last ice age began in 2349 Bc since they date the start of the flood at 2348 BC which lasted for 1 year and 10 days. Continue Reading
I’m about halfway through Dr Susan B Martinez”s book entitled “The Mysterious Origins of Hybrid Man.” She presents some interesting information and hypotheses. Her basic premise is that human evolution is not linear, that is, one species did not evolve into a higher species of human. Rather, she postulates that there were various species of ancient human ancestors and they interbred, thus, creating hybrids. This idea is not new as some early scientists presented the possibility of such in the 19th and 20th centuries. Rather than evolution, Martinez suggests, it has been a matter of interbreeding beginning with the first two “races” (which are really human ancestral subspecies) known as Ardipithecus ramidus and a race she calls the “Ihin.”
Ardipithecus ramidus was first discovered in 1994 and in 2009 researchers announced the discovery of a partial skeleton they named “Ardi.” Some paleontologists believe Ardi is a human-ape common ancestor meaning it would be a common ancestor for both humans and apes. Ardi’s fossil remains were found alongside fauna remains indicating she lived in a wooded environment and this challenged the idea of the open savanna theory which holds that humans learned to walk upright as climates became drier, more open, and grassy. Ardi lived in East Africa about 4.4 mya according to current thought. Ardi stood about 4 ft tall and weighed about 110 lbs.

The “Ihins” were a race of ancient human ancestors who were small like H. floresiensis. They were highly intelligent and very spiritual. The interbreed with Ardi’s species and produced the first hybrid which we know as Australopithecus. Continue Reading
It’s the old debate! Creation vs Evolution! Both sides have merit in my opinion and both sides have faults in my opinion. So which is it?
I grew up in a religious family but I’ve never been a “Bible thumper” or “holy roller.” In fact, even growing up I thought there was something to evolution yet I believed God created everything in the universe including human beings. So I began to think about it for many years and here’s what I concluded….
I can’t help but notice in the Bible and especially in the Old Testament that God most often worked through nature. Very, very seldom has God done something outside of using natural events, things we might call “miracles” or “divine intervention.” Examples of God working through nature are things like the parting of the Red Sea, earthquakes, volcanic activity that results in fire raining from the sky, Noah’s flood, and, of course, the creation of Adam and Eve in the NATURE Garden of Eden. Frankly, the BIBLICAL evidence strongly suggests that God most OFTEN works through NATURE. Continue Reading

There’s a new article up on the “Ancient Origins” website by April Holloway that is highly interesting. It concerns the dating of a Triceratops horn using C-14 dating and it is dated not at billions or millions of years ago but at only 33,500 years ago! That’s nothing short of astounding! So let’s take a closer look.

Before I begin let me state a few things. I’ve always found it incredible (to say the least) when scientists date fossils at fantastic ages in the millions or more years. There has always been a question in my mind as to the accuracy of such dates. And then we have things like the footprints of dinosaurs and ancient humans found by Leakey in the Olduvai Gorge walking beside each other which is even more incredible. That find tells me that humans and dinosaurs DID coexist at some point but such evidence is summarily passed off by most paleontologists or simply not discussed. That’s ridiculous and that is NOT science! As I’ve said before, true science follows the evidence wherever it leads and if it obliterates someone’s bet theory then so be it. We must ask ourselves if our real interest is in science and evidence OR is our real interest in maintaining some ridiculously fantastic theory, funding, and teaching tenure? Sadly, I fear the later is the answer.
I don’t necessarily agree with the Creationists, but I don’t fully agree with the mainstream paleontologists either. Frankly, I feel both camps have some things a bit right and other things a bit wrong. I have found in my life that truth usually is not found at the extremes of a spectrum but that it is typically found in the middle. I really don’t care if new discoveries wreck someones theory or cost them their funding because we are suppose to be scientists and scientists are suppose to pursue truth no matter where that truth may lead. As scientists we must follow the chain of verifiable evidence! That should be the first rule of science. Continue Reading
