    The overwhelming opinion, based on multiple lines of excellent evidence is that all races of human are part of a single species.

    One of the lines is that no human race has any particular type of DNA that is particular to its own race. In different species, the new evidence is that all species have areas of DNA that are specific to just them. This is true even in species that can and do interbreed.

    In studying two types of butterflies in the Amazon that readily interbreed, it was found that one area of DNA in each species never transferred to the other.

    Human-Neandertal breeding was very difficult and most of the offspring did not survive for some reason. Neandertal males mating with human females was rarely successful. However, human males mating with Neandertal females apparently worked sometimes.

    However, the Khoisan are one of the oldest people on Earth with a specific line going back 53,000 years.

    The Aborigine of course are very ancient. They are quite distant from all other humans

    It is important to note that by their nature, all subspecies can interbreed….. In addition, there are some anatomical and genetic differences in all subspecies.

    My understanding was that neanderthal males and human females could breed successfully a significant amount of the time (and most-much of the neanderthal admixture in some modern humans seems to come from males), but that many of the male hybrids of those unions were sterile (but a larger percentage of the female offspring of neanderthal males/human females were fertile. So Eurasians seem to derive much of their neanderthal ancestry through human/neanderthal hybrid females, who were themselves the offspring of a neanderthal male and a human female (those female hybrids having bred with human males, etc.).

    Also note — a mule is the hybrid result of breeding a horse with a donkey and although most mules are sterile a few are not. Lindsay has it backwards.


  2. some may think of me as a horses ass, or just an ass, for comparing humans to horses and their kin. but there is a significant difference between a mule and a hinny, just like the lyger and tigon. who the mother and father are makes that difference. the mule has a horse for the mother, donkey is the dad. thus the mule maintains the large size of the horse and large ears of the dad, donkey. in a hinny the mom is the donkey and the dad is the horse, and the hinny remains smaller like the mom donkey and has smaller ears like the dad horse. you describe the almost exact same things in humans and our kin. coyotes, wolves, dogs, coywolves, and coydogs, (wogs and dolves?) Nature is a quirky, mad scientist that almost seems whimsical. so are we. hybrid vigor is often a desired trait, being sterile is not in nature.

  3. Very good points Randolf 🙂 I know with my own experience that mules are most often stronger and smarter than either of their parents, horse and donkey. Typically, they are sterile BUT not all are sterile which I always found kind of weird. But, then again, mules are created by the interference of MAN so that makes them “creatures never meant to be.” And, yes, nature is often quirky and odd and perhaps even moreso when man interferes in its natural processes.

    I do agree with the article above that all humans today are Homo sapiens sapiens. However, I do NOT agree with such things as when they claim we have 3% Neanderthal DNA et al because I think some people have more Neanderthal DNA, H. erectus DNA, et al than others. I firmly believe that all modern humans today are HYBRIDS. We are the result of eons of interbreeding some more than others. When it comes to evolution “one size doesn’t fit all” in my opinion.
