Back in April I posted about the fossil remains of Luzia Woman found in Brazil. Most anthropologists, including myself, believe she was a Paleo-Indian who may well have been part of the first wave of migrants into South America. The fossil remains have been dated at about 11.5 kya and in terms of all things anthropological that’s not that long ago. In fact, it was towards the end of the last glaciation. You can find my original post at the link below.
In my opinion Luzia Woman has some very distinct negroid traits that suggest she could have come from Africa or Aboriginal Australia. If she came from Australia I’m sure she came by boat across the Pacific and if she came from Africa I’m sure she came to South America by boat across the Atlantic! Whatever the case she does NOT look like modern Native Americans and that’s a fact! And in addition, it is well know that the Paleo-Indians did NOT look like modern Native Americans. This is why we separate them from Amer-Indians because the Amer-Indians DID look like modern Native Americans.
Native American ancestors from the time of the end of the last ice age do look Australoid in terms of race. But, then again, so did northeastern Asians from which the Australoids descended!
In my mind Luzia Woman and other fossil remains are HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT and IMPORTANT because they provide proof that Australoids reached South America and settled there either by intention or by accident. Much of their ancient art is clearly Australoid in origin as well. The single landbridge theory between Siberia and Alaska as being the only means to entry into the “New World” just doesn’t hold water anymore (yes pun intended LOL). Further, new discoveries are proving that humans were in the New World long, long before we suspected and I’ve blogged about those discoveries too.
My point is this. MOST anthropologists consider Luzia Woman to be a Paleo-Indian. Not an Amer-Indian and not a modern Native American as we can clearly see Australoid features in her fossil remains. In my mind this is a pretty good indication that she came from Aboriginal Australian stock and I’m not alone in this thought either. We need to expand our vision! We need to get BEYOND this landbridge thing! There were several other ways Asians and Africans could have come to the so-called “New World” and SOME people were already here and had always been here. This idea that the Americas were untouched and pristine if a MYTH!! Most Native Americans know it’s a myth because many of their tribes have stories of their ancestors always being here in the Americas and coming from NOWHERE! In fact, when you present them with the idea of the landbridge and how their ancestors came out of Asia they laugh at the idea….hysterically sometimes! That in itself speaks volumes……
