A new study is out from the UCLA Institute of the Environment & Sustainability concerning environmental impacts of food consumption and defecation by dogs and cats! That’s right…you read that right….we’re talking that cute little puppy and/or furry kitten you have in your lap right now!!
According to the study our little buddies produce 5.1 million tons of feces which is, ironically, the SAME amount that is produced by humans today in America. The study also found that 25-30% of the impact on the environment in terms of meat consumption in the US is produced by those furry little critters too. And their carbon footprint? The study determined it is about 64 million tons of carbon dioxide yearly! That’s about the same impact a year’s worth of driving 13.6 million cars has on the environment too btw. :O
But researchers appear to have a soft spot for our little furry friends as they are NOT recommending you get rid of Fido and Fefe. They are also NOT recommending you put Fido and Fefe on a vegetarian diet either as that would be “very unhealthy” for carnivores…hmmmm….does this include humans too?
Oh btw the lead researcher fancies himself somewhat of a comedian so in interviews with the media he was quick to show off his “talent.” He suggested we all get ponies, walk them, and allow them to “mow the lawn.” Excuse me but don’t they crap too?
Here we have yet more JUNK SCIENCE! Wasted research money!! Wasted time!! This is actually one of the most ridiculous studies I’ve read in a long time, frankly!! I don’t know who is in charge of awarding research money at UCLA but I suspect they might need to be replaced!
Sooooo……….Fido……and Fefe…..sorry guys but no dinner for you tonight. In fact, I guess no dinner for you ever again since you are major contributors to “global warming.” 🙂
What a load of CRAP!!
