I attended a little talk today that I found quite interesting and I learned a few things. For one thing I learned that the obelisk in the center of St Peter’s square was actually brought from Egypt by the Roman Emperor Nero whom I think likely insane. For another I was not aware that the Vatican houses a full-sized Roman sculpture of the Roman god of war, Mars (Ares in Greece), among others!
My mind began to wonder upon hearing these and other little tidbits during the presentation. For one thing, wouldn’t the statue of Mars/Ares be a “pagan image” of a “false god”? Historically the Vatican has viewed such things as abominations so why would they house such things under the very nose of the Pope and the faithful? I just bet that statue and the others is worth millions and I suspect THAT is the reason it and the others is in the Vatican. MONEY! Nothing more! MONEY!!
My thoughts then turned toward the gross and often blatant HYPOCRISY we see in the world today especially in terms of our religions! We preach one thing yet do another! One would think some Pope would throw these “pagan idols” in a bon fire in the midst of St Peters Square but….NO DICE! And I’m absolutely certain that doesn’t happen because of the value of the “pagan idols.” Not so long ago the Vatican was pillaging communities and nations through European proxy armies for the worship of these “pagan idols.” And now the Vatican houses them? What hypocrisy!
But, don’t get me wrong as it just not the Vatican who blatantly engages in such a gross display of hypocrisy but just about every other faith, denomination, and religion too. The Vatican is far from being alone in such hypocrisy. In fact they have lots of company in my estimation!
