Scientists theorize that there have been anywhere between 6 and 8 mass extinction events in Earth’s history. What is ironic in those events is that they seem to coincide with geomagnetic reversals otherwise known as magnetic pole shifts! And these two events (mass extinction and geomagnetic reversals) coincide far more than can be dismissed as coincidence. Additionally, many of these geomagnetic reversals have also occurred in sync with a decent into sometimes catastrophic glaciation events (read ICE ages).
So what do we have here? Simply….
geomagnetic reversal (magnetic pole shift) = mass extinction event = glaciation event (ice age).
Paleontologists who find dinosaur fossil remains have at times also found unexplained layers of carbon embedded next to the fossil remains and sometimes they have found unexplainable deposits of radioactive materials next to the fossil remains as well. But that’s not all….
After some extinction events something rather mysterious seemed to have happened. New species of plants and animals began to appear seemingly out of nowhere and with no known or traceable ancestors to explain their sudden appearance! So just where did these new species of florafauna and megafauna come from?
Paleoanthropologists study human evolution. We are told and taught that evolution happens in small steps. But is that really the way evolution happens and why do some species appear not to have evolved at all? If the “small step” theory is true then we ought to be finding fossil remains of animals with half eyes or half wings but we don’t find them so what does this mean? What if evolution actually happens in GIANT LEAPS and what if those giant leaps coincide with geomagnetic reversals?
In 1940 geneticist Richard Goldschmidt authored a book entitled “The Material Basis for Evolution.” He theorized that if evolution works in tiny steps then we should find many intermediate stages in the fossil record. Of course what he is saying is that if evolution works in small steps then we should be finding MANY MISSING LINKS in the fossil record. But we DON’T! Why not? The answer just might be that it is because no missing links existed because evolution happens in giant leaps rather than small steps. Goldschmidt postulated that new species DO NOT evolve slowly but, rather, arise abruptly.
The “small step” theory postulates that evolution happens in small steps over millions of billions of years. We might say that people who hold to this theory are “creepers.” But, then, there are the “jerks” and their theory holds that evolution doesn’t happen in small steps at all but in leaps (jerks). The jerks believe evolution works suddenly and, thus, makes sudden leaps in short amounts of time. But if the jerks are right then what mechanism on planet Earth causes such sudden leaps? Geomagnetic reversals are one proposed mechanism for such sudden change. Those who adhere to this theory believe that geomagnetic reversals occur on a predictable basis as part of our planets natural cycle and not only that but they say that we should expect such a reversal anytime now!
Consider this. Homo sapiens are believed to have appeared around 200,000 years ago (Kya). We are pretty much unchanged since that time. Why? Is it because evolution takes place slowly or is it because since the appearance of H. sapiens there has been NO evolution of the human species? And will we not see any human evolution until the next jerk or leap?
When geomagnetic reversals happen do they cause radiation? Is such an event similar to a nuclear explosion on some scale? Some researchers think so. But aren’t the magnetic poles moving today? Isn’t that why airplanes have to reset their compasses? In fact the magnetic poles are moving today! The North Pole is no longer at the North Pole but is somewhere in Siberia.
The North Magnetic Pole is known to move over time due to changes in the Earth’s core. In 2001 it was near Ellesmere Island in northern Canada. In 2005 is was more westerly of that location. in 2009 it was still located in Canada’s arctic region but was moving towards Siberia in Russia at about 34-37 miles per hour. In 2012 the magnetic North Pole had moved into the Siberian region.
Most people know about the Magnetic North Pole but there is also a Magnetic South Pole. The poles are NOT antipodal, meaning if you draw a line between the two magnetic poles that line will NOT pass through the center of the Earth.
One thing we know geologically is that over the course of our planet’s history the Earth’s magnetic field has reversed MANY times! What happens during these reversals is magnetic North becomes magnetic South and magnetic South becomes magnetic North. Could this explain some Native American legends concerning how South used to be North and visa versa? Or could it explain the earth turning over several times as one Navajo legend speaks of? Further, could this explain the Aztec and Maya legends about the great snakes unwinding at the two poles and causing havoc upon planet Earth in the remote past?
So just exactly what is a geomagnetic reversal?
Simply, a geomagnetic reversal is a shift or change in the planet’s magnetic field. What happens is that magnetic north and magnetic south are interchanged. Geomagnetic reversals have happened many times in the Earth’s past. Estimates vary but on the average it is believed that these reversals occur over a period of about 1000 to 10,000 years with some happening quicker than others. The last reversal happened about 780Kya and is known as the Brunhes–Matuyama Reversal. However, there is a more recent reversal and it is known as the Laschamp Event and it happened about 41Kya during the last glacial period (ice age). That event was brief and resulted in a complete reversal. It only lasted for about 440 years and the actual change in polarity lasted around 250 years. During this period the planet’s magnetic field dropped about 5% compared to its present strength. Also, sometimes such disruptions don’t result in magnetic pole reversals and these events are known as Geomagnetic Excursions.
As mentioned above most researchers believe that Geomagnetic Reversals take anywhere from 1000 to 10Kya in terms of duration, however, 15 million year old lava fields in Oregon indicate that the Earth’s magnetic field is actually capable of shifting at a rate of 6 degrees per day. Further, during such reversals it is believed that SEVERAL POLES form during the reversal in somewhat rather chaotic fashion until the field stabilizes again. However, the magnetic field DOES NOT vanish completely. In short, Geomagnetic Reversals can be CATASTROPHIC or at least chaotic!
I also want to mention that not only does the Magnetic North Pole shift but so does the Magnetic South Pole. Right now the Magnetic South Pole is northwest of the South Pole. It is believed that it has been moving northwesterly since the 1600s towards Australia. It’s speed of shift has actually slowed down unlike its counterpart in the North which has sped up.
Right now today the geomagnetic north pole is actually located south of the North Pole in northern Siberia. It appears to still be moving southwesterly. Fact is that a Geomagnetic Reversal could actually happen sooner than any of us would like to think. According to an article appearing in Scientific America dated July 2014 measurements taken by satellites indicate the magnetic field is WEAKENING TEN TIMES FASTER THAN WE THOUGHT! And this weakening is especially happening in the Western Hemisphere. Last year (2014) the European Space Agency warned that the magnetic North Pole was moving southward towards Siberia at an accelerated pace. And they also warned that the dynamic magnetic field that protects our planet from solar radiation is weakening which could spell very bad news! The magnetic field act like a shield protecting us from solar radiation coming from the Sun. They estimate that over the past two centuries the magnetic field has weakened by 15% and the results of a weakening magnetic field range anywhere from more cancer due to higher exposure to solar radiation to collapse of our electrical grid due to severe solar storms to climate change on a mass scale, even moreso than we see happening today! They also pointed out that since the discovery of the magnetic North Pole in 1831 it has wandered more than 600 miles. The ESA also noted that the movement has accelerated in recent years from an average of 6 miles per year to an astounding 25 miles per year!
The planet’s magnetic field protects us from deadly solar radiation so it is important and any change in the field is significant. Ironically, while the field has been weakening in the Western Hemisphere it has actually been strengthening over areas such as the southern Indian Ocean. Although scientists are unsure what is going on they admit that the most likely explanation is that Earth’s magnetic poles are preparing to flip! Magnetic North is actually moving into Siberia as we speak!
It is no coincidence that evolutionary leaps coincide with magnetic pole shift. In fact, the odds say that it is not coincidence at all. If so then this explains human evolution and why so few (if any) “missing links” have been found in the human evolutionary record. We should find many transitional human ancestor species if evolution progresses slowly but that is NOT the case. What we find is leaps in human evolution and in other species! And those leaps coincide with shifting of the magnetic poles that sometimes bring about catastrophic ice ages. For modern civilization that could spell DISASTER! Whatever the outcome one thing is for certain and that is that life on planet Earth seems about to change again as it has so many times in the past for OUR SPECIES.
